There are many graphic designers out there who are good web designers BUT not all Graphic Designers are good Web Designers and not all Web Designers are good Graphic Designers.
If you are looking to have a web site created it is a good idea to find both design skills in the person you hire. First lets define both types of designers.
Graphic Designer: Graphic Design can be done both in digital and print format. (but not to be confused with web design) They have a smart innovative eye when it comes to branding, brochures, business cards etc. They are creative and can think out side of the box. Graphic Designers know how to layout files to send to printers and how to successfully carry the “audience” eye through their material.
Web Designer: A Web Designer is much more technical and sometimes not as creative. They have to be able to code and to be able to design a successful site that works on multiple browsers. They have to be able to set up navigation in a logical since. A Web Designer needs to know how to get rid of extra “bloated” code and to optimize your site for the Search Engines. Plus a lot more.
To have a successful website you need both a graphic designer and web designer. If you can find those skills in one person, who can think with both sides of the brain, the all the much better. All the coding for a perfect site in the world is great BUT in today’s world it also has to look good, be attractive and visually convey your message.
A combination of both skills in a must or your web site will not be successful.
Yes they can be the same person, but make sure you look at both their graphic and web portfolio before hiring them.
